Walli Pegniello, a world traveller when she is not sorting out taxes between Canada and the USA, told the Shellback Club of one of her many adventures, her voyage from New Zealand to the Antarctic. About Walli Pagniello
My parents made love – not war – I am living proof having been born in 1941. I grew up in the poorest conditions post war after evacuation. The blessing was that I grew up in West Germany. I met my Canadian husband in Frankfurt and came to Canada in 1965. Life is what you make it!! Today, you are getting to know the proudest CANADIAN in this country. Over the years there were lots of happenings with sickness, divorce, remarriage and death, and another try – I am here to talk about it all with gratitude in my attitude. My love for our beautiful world was always present and waiting to be realized. The last 25 years have been my most exciting. I have explored all seven continents and over 70 countries. I had the courage to open my own successful income tax business and today I am still active from February to May; and the rest of the year, I play in our beautiful world, the biggest blessing in my life. I found a friend who wanted to explore the world on bicycle, and who got me hooked on that. We bicycled the east and west coasts of Canada. In Europe we took • the Orient Express from Vienna, Austria, to Istanbul, Turkey, • the Amber Route from St. Petersburg, Russia to Venice, Italy, and finally • the Bamboo Road from Shanghai, China to Singapore. These were some of my most exciting achievements. But there were other interests, like my dream of 50 years to realize hiking in the foothills of the great Himalayas in Nepal. I got to look at them after Hillary’s ascent of Mt. Everest in 1953. In 2003 I hiked in the foothills of that tallest mountain in the world with orchids growing at the bottom. I have also explored: • South America from Bolivia, Peru to Ecuador, including the Galapagos Islands, • Africa from Cape Town to Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe on a camping trip and a real gem - beautiful Morocco . . . How about trekking to the gorillas in Uganda and ascending Mount Kilimanjaro?? 2010 was the year! Then I took the Trans-Siberia Railway from Beijing, China, to St. Petersburg, Russia, . . and in 2017 the journey by boat from Invercargill, New Zealand, to Cape Adare, Antarctica. YES, I am so proud to be here to talk about it . . . and I continue planning new adventures!!! . . . AND IF I CAN DO IT - SO CAN YOU!!!
