Robert Millard
ROBERT OLIVER MILLARD Was born in Kenora, Ontario on November 4, 1925 and died peacefully in Toronto on November 15, 2016. He was a kind and compassionate gentleman who was loved by many.
He grew up in Nova Scotia, served with the 8th New Brunswick Hussars and went overseas in 1944. Bob attended Acadia University, after which he went to sea on the SS Vineland. He later published a book called My Year at Sea.
His move to Toronto was the start of an impressive career in the insurance industry. He mentored many people and his joyful personality and sparkling smile were keys to his success.
His marriage to Mary Inness in 1953 produced Elizabeth Millard (Verwey) and Grant Millard and he welcomed her 2 children to their union: Carolyn Gardner (Callaghan) and David Gardner (deceased). Bob cherished his grandchildren (Laura, Paul, Michael and Corinne), great- grandchildren (Zach, Jesse (deceased) Samantha, Gabe, Jakob and Hazel) and great- great-grandchild (Wesley).
Bob and Mary took up sailing in their 50s and travelled extensively. In retirement, winters were spent in Sebring, Florida and that expanded their social network.
Bob hosted Opera Nights at the Leaside Retirement Residence where he and Mary moved in 2008. He was a lifelong learner, avid Shakespeare scholar and a lover of limericks. Following the peaceful death of Mary, Bob met Dora Dunbar. She was the love of his life and everyone who saw them could feel their love. Bob's generous heart and kind soul will be missed.
