World Cruising Club - Ashbridges Bay Yacht Club
Date: Thursday January 26, 2017 Main Speakers: Paul and Sheryl Shard Transatlantic Crossing Part 4: Storms and Sargasso Final leg of our ocean crossing sailing from the Canary Islands by Cabo Verde Islands to St. Lucia in the Caribbean, an area of frequent squalls and stormy weather. As we approached the Caribbean we demonstrate how to deal with the sudden increase and drop in winds to maintain a good pace to reach our destination. This area is also part of the Sargasso Sea, where large floating rafts of golden sargasso weed can ensnare a sailing vessel. We fought with weeds wrapped in the propellers and large clumps hooked on the rudder. We have a method to easily dislodge them. The World Cruising Club meets the 4th Thursday of each month September, October, November, January, February, and March. 18:30 Sailors’ Dinner 19:30 Tech Speaker 20:00 Main Speaker All welcome in a network for cruising info and experiences; free parking.
